Workshop 1

Theme: Participation and Cultural Policy Decision-making

Date: 7 April 2014, 10am-4.30pm

Venue: University of Leeds

This workshop covers topics including grassroots approaches to policy planning, the principles of participatory decision-making and barriers to policy implementation or research interventions. Programme speakers include:
  • Dr Dave O’Brien (Lecturer in Cultural Industry Studies, City University London)
  • Karen Brookfield (Deputy Director of Strategy and Business Development, Heritage Lottery Fund)
  • Dr Helen Graham (Research Fellow in Tangible and Intangible Heritage, University of Leeds)
  • Leila Jancovich (Senior Lecturer in Cultural Policy, Arts and Festivals Management, Leeds Metropolitan University)


Workshop 2

Theme: ‘Cultural Value’ and the Economic and Social Impact of the Arts

Date: 9 July 2014, 9.45am-4.30pm

Venue: University of Warwick

This second workshop, on cultural value, covers topics relating to the role of culture in society, the impact agenda for culture, models for measuring the social impact of the arts and the value of academic research in relation to policy. Speakers include:
  • Susan Jones (Director at a-n The Artists Information Company)
  • Eleonora Belfiore (Associate Professor of Cultural Policy and Director of Studies of the Warwick Commission on the Future of Cultural Value) 
The programme will also feature a hands-on workshop, which explores how the work of humanities researchers can be applied to different audiences and disseminated through a range of media.
